Telephones in Orange County
In the Orange County Jail you will have the opportunity to use the telephone for between two and six hours per day (generally depending on how long the guards allow it). Also, if inmates are getting in trouble then the guards may take away phone privileges completely.
Each dorm has six telephones to share between 100 inmates - at times it can be difficult to get on a phone and there is a general pecking order that you must follow. Also, each phone is probably used exclusively by a race so you should be aware of which phones you can use. Read information on dealing with other inmates to learn more.
Phone calls cost $4 each and must be made collect - you cannot buy phone cards in the Orange County Jail to make your calls. The upside is that these phone calls can last as long as you would like - if you are able to get a phone for an hour or so you can have a good conversation.
When you make a phone call the operator will announce that you are calling from the Orange County Jail so you cannot easily deceive people into thinking you are somewhere else if you need to make a call. While some inmates report success calling cell phones most former inmates agree that it generally doesn't work so you should know a few landline phone call numbers.
