Medications in Orange County

The Orange County Jail has a surprisingly liberal medication policy - any medication that you take on the outside they will administer to you in the jail - this includes sleeping pills at night and medicines such as Xanax for anxiety.

A popular practice in the OC jail is "cheeking" meds - when you are given medication they will watch you take the meds and open your mouth to prove you swallowed it. Some inmates will hide the pill in their mouths and "sell" it to other inmates later (usually barter for commissary). This is a serious offense - if caught you will probably lose some time off for good behavior.

A nurse will come by in the jail three times a day - after breakfast, after lunch and after dinner. If you need medications in jail you just need to fill out a medical request - the jail takes these very seriously and won't risk infringing your rights. Even indigent inmates should receive medications.
