Jail Media: Let’s talk about medications. If you need to take certain medications, could you take it?
Stan Smith: Yeah, you fill out a slip and every night when they do counts, they do that three or four times a day to make sure you’re at your bunk, you just hand the deputies a medical slip and they’ll make sure you see a nurse. They’re good when it comes to medical.
Jail Media: Do they give you your medicine right there and watch you take it?
Stan Smith: Yeah, they give you medicine three times per day and they watch you.
Jail Media: Were there any kinds of medicines that weren’t allowed or would they give you anything?
Stan Smith: Oh, they would pretty much give you everything.
Jail Media: So there were people taking Xanax and Ambien – stuff like that?
Stan Smith: Oh yeah. If they could get those back they would be trading those too.
Jail Media: So do inmates cheek those and sell them or trade them?
Stan Smith: Yeah, they do that a lot.
Jail Media: And what’s the punishment for that? Lose time off? Do they have solitary confinement?
Stan Smith: They do, but that’s mostly for high-risk inmates – mostly just for fighting. They’re not too worried about the little stuff.
Jail Media: You never really got in trouble while you were there?
Stan Smith: Yeah, but I saw a lot of guys get in trouble.
Jail Media: You just wanted to get out?
Stan Smith: Yeah, I just wanted to do my time.
