According to several ex-Orange County Jail inmates having the right attorney in this area is crucial. In fact, one interviewee suggests that having the right attorney may mean the difference between a year behind bars and a month of house arrest or, possibly, no time at all.
If you are indigent (don't have any money) the court will appoint an attorney for you (referred to as a "public defender"). Beware, however, that Public Defenders usually don't have a lot of time to spend on each case and inmates using public defenders generally have much less attention paid to their case. If you are facing criminal charges in Orange County, hire a good attorney!
